Wiki Editing Tips

Important Tip: If you click Edit in the Wiki to open the WYSIWYG editor, it would be easy to forget that you are in editing mode and you might keep it open for a long time... doing so will probably result in the loss of your changes because your session will timeout during that time. Don't enter Edit mode until you are ready to make a change; enter Edit Mode, make your change, and save it right away.

Wikis are Easy to Learn Because They Have a Very Limited Set of Features

  • Sample Page - demonstrates formatting features you can use by copying and pasting
  • General Formatting - bold, italics, headers, bullets, numbering, definition lists, paragraphs, code, quotes, symbols
  • Links - internal and external links
  • Lists - multi-column lists and other advanced listing options
  • Tables - formatting, positioning, alignment, sorting, etc.
  • Collapsing Elements - hide sections or subsections
  • Images - formats, sizing, alignment, borders, captions, thumbnails, etc.
  • Upload a File
  • Managing Files - uploading, list, gallery. List All Files
  • Moving or Renaming a Page - By using the "Move" feature, you also move the editing history (which is typically desirable)
  • User Pages - each user has their own personal page
  • Talk Pages - Every wiki page has an associated talk page, which can be used for discussion and communicating with other users.
  • Configuration Settings - modified in the LocalSettings.php file
  • User's Guide for information on using the wiki software.
